Concept Note

India's independence in 1947 marked the beginning of a new era of social transformation, cultural reconstruction, and literary innovation. Over the past decades, the nation has witnessed significant changes in its social structure, political institutions, economic policies, and cultural expressions. These developments have profoundly influenced the evolution of Indian society and found diverse representations in literature and cultural practices.

The proposed International Seminar seeks to explore the multiple dimensions of post-Independence India through an interdisciplinary perspective. It aims to examine issues such as nation-building, democracy, social justice, gender, caste, ethnicity, regional identities, globalization, and technological change, alongside their reflections in literature and culture. The seminar will also highlight the contributions of regional and North-Eastern literatures, indigenous traditions, and emerging cultural narratives in shaping contemporary India.

Bringing together scholars, researchers, writers, and students from India and abroad, the seminar intends to provide a platform for meaningful academic dialogue and critical engagement with the changing realities of post-Independence India. Through deliberations and scholarly exchange, the seminar seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of the dynamic relationship between society, literature, and culture in modern India.

Submission Guidelines : 

1. Abstract Submission : Submit an abstract of not more than 300 words outlining the main arguments and methodology of the paper. 

2. Full Paper Submission : Full papers should be between 3000-5000 words, formatted according to MLA style guide. 

3. Language : Papers may be written in any of the following languages : English, Hindi, Bengali & Assamese. 

4. Submission Deadline :

- Abstracts : 25.07.2026     

- Full Papers : 12.08.2026

INTRODUCTION TO ASSAM UNIVERSITY : Assam University is located 20 kms away from the district head quarter Silchar. It is well connected through direct train service from Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Tiruvanthapuram, Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Naharlagun, Secunderabad, Yashvantapur (Bengaluru) and other major cities of India. Established in 1994 by an Act of the Indian Parliament, Assam University is a Central University with a focus on teaching and affiliations. Spanning 600 acres in Dargakona in the Barak Valley, 20 km from Silchar town, the campus is surrounded by lakes and mountains, creating an ideal academic environment. Comprising sixteen schools and forty- one departments, it is one of north east India's pioneering educational institutions established in 1994. Notably, the university also has a second campus in Diphu, situated in the Karbi Anglong, district of Assam.  

  

THE HOST CITY : Silchar, one of the largest cities in the north east, serves as headquarters of Cachar district. Situated on the banks of the river Barak River, it is the cultural & the business hub of southern Assam. Bordered by the Barail & Jayantia hill ranges to the north, Mizoram to the south, Manipur to the east, and Hailakandi & Karimganj districts to the west. Silchar experiences a favourable climate with hot & humid summers, averaging an annual temperature of 30°C. AUS is well connected with Silchar airport (43 km), Silchar railway station (24 km) & Badarpur railway junction (47 km).
